STUDIO ARENA AND LITERACY VOLUNTEERS TO HOST
BOOK DONATION DRIVE AT THEATRE

All the Great (and Not So Great) Books Accepted

March 17, 2006, Buffalo, NY – Studio Arena Theatre and Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo & Erie County are partnering to sponsor a book donation drive, “All the Great (and Not So Great) Books Drive,” in conjunction with Studio Arena Theatre’s current production, ALL THE GREAT BOOKS (ABRIDGED), featuring the Reduced Shakespeare Company.

Patrons attending the play are encouraged to drop off new or gently used books in the Studio Arena Theatre lobby near the box office during the run of the play, March 17 – April 9, 2006. Donors who do not attend the play are also invited to donate books any time Studio Arena’s box office is open. The books collected will be sold at a spring book sale, with the proceeds to benefit the educational programs of both the Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo & Erie County and Studio Arena Theatre. Any books that are not sold during the spring sale will be donated to Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo and Erie County.

“ALL THE GREAT BOOKS (ABRIDGED) covers classics such as Animal Farm and The Scarlet Letter, but we are not limiting the book drive to great books in the classic sense of the term,” said Studio Arena Executive Director Ken Neufeld. “We will accept any kind of book that people are finished reading and want to allow someone else to enjoy. That’s why we’re calling the drive the “All the Great (and Not So Great) Books Drive.”

“We thought the play ALL THE GREAT BOOKS (ABRIDGED) was a great opportunity to draw attention to the importance of reading and the appreciation of books,” said Tracy Diina, executive director of Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo & Erie County. “We’re also pleased to make Studio Arena Theatre audiences aware of the efforts of the Literacy Volunteers to increase literacy in the Buffalo community.”

Studio Arena Theatre is located at 710 Main Street at the corner of Tupper. It is Buffalo’s nationally recognized producing theatre with a nationwide reputation for innovation and excellence. Literacy Volunteers is the region’s sole provider of free, one-on-one adult and family literacy services.
