STUDIO ARENA TO HOLD USED BOOK SALE MAY 12 & 13

Fundraiser to benefit Studio Arena Theatre and Literacy Volunteers

Buffalo, NY – Studio Arena Theatre and Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo & Erie County are partnering on a used book sale Friday, May 12 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 702 Main Street, a building adjacent to the theatre. The books will be priced at a fair value for used books and proceeds will benefit Studio Arena Theatre and Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo & Erie County.

The sale will include thousands of gently-used hardcover and paperback books in genres of all kinds, such as romance, mystery, thriller, biography, essay, children’s books and textbooks. The collection includes recent best sellers and historical classics.

The books were collected during the “All the Great (and Not So Great) Books Drive,” in conjunction with Studio Arena Theatre’s recent production, ALL THE GREAT BOOKS (ABRIDGED). Patrons attending the play dropped off new and used books during the run of the play in March and April.

“We were amazed and grateful that so many people in the community brought books to the theatre” said Studio Arena Theatre Executive Director Ken Neufeld. “One by one, the stacks of books in our theatre grew and we have quite a selection for people to purchase.”

“I’m touched to see the outpouring of support for our book drive,” said Tracy Diina, executive director of Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo & Erie County. “People were so generous in their donations and I’m glad books will get into the hands people who need them so much. This drive and sale will do a lot to make people aware of the efforts of the Literacy Volunteers to increase literacy in the Buffalo community.”

Customers coming to the book sale the morning of Saturday, May 13 are also welcome to visit the open house taking place at Studio Arena Theatre that day from 10:00 a.m. to noon. The open house will feature backstage tours, costume and set model displays and the opportunity to meet Studio Arena’s new artistic director, Kathleen Gaffney.

Studio Arena Theatre is located at 710 Main Street at the corner of Tupper. It is Buffalo’s nationally recognized producing theatre with a nationwide reputation for innovation and excellence. Literacy Volunteers is the region’s sole provider of free, one-on-one adult and family literacy services.
