Creating Historical Literacy
Buffalo, NY July 25, 2006 The Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society and Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo and Erie County have teamed up to bring history to life while promoting literacy in young children.
Together they have created Living History: Children’s Story Time, an informational pre-school story hour initiated by the Historical Society in an effort to reach out to a broader audience and enhance the community’s interest in the museum.
This fun and engaging program for preschool children is scheduled to kickoff at the Historical Society’s Nottingham Court museum at 11 a.m. this Thursday, July 27, with a storytelling session entitled Living History: Remembering our Past and Creating Tomorrow’s History.
The one-hour storytelling sessions will continue throughout the summer, with the following themes already scheduled:
• August 3: Diversity in Our Community Today
• August 10: How Do We Connect With Our Community?
• August 17: History and Nature
Admission is free for each child and one adult and includes a light snack and craft/activity. Additional adults will be charged a $3 admission fee. Contact the Historical Society for additional information at 873-9644 ext. 310.
