JUNIOR LEAGUE OF BUFFALO ANNOUNCES NEW COMMUNITY PROJECT
(Buffalo, NY) The Junior League of Buffalo is proud to introduce our new Community Project, a partnership with Literacy Volunteers.
Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo & Erie County is the region's sole provider of free, one-on-one adult literacy services. Their mission and commitment is to improve the well being of individuals and families in Buffalo and Erie County by providing reading, English language learning and literacy services to anyone wishing to improve their literacy skills. Literacy Volunteers, similar to our organization, achieves this through recruiting, training and supporting a dedicated group of volunteers. The women of The Junior League of Buffalo look forward to helping Literacy Volunteers change lives, word by word.
The Junior League of Buffalo will partner with Literacy Volunteers in several ways. Member of the Junior League will assist with running a drop-in-center at the LV offices on Main St. Drop-in-centers allow waiting students to receive immediate help in reaching their literacy goals while waiting to be matched with a one-on-one tutor. Junior League members will also participate on several committees including marketing and pubic advocacy as well as assisting at the office maintaining the Literacy Volunteer’s tutor-student library.
Questions regarding the Community Project may be directed to Project Chair Jennifer Berryman or Co-Chair Kristy Gossel at (716) 884-8865 or jlb@buffnet.net.
The Junior League of Buffalo is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and to improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
