Literacy Volunteers Sponsors the "Large and in Charge" Forum - Neighbors Uniting Against Violence
A Special Community Conversation With Kenfield Langfield Development Neighbors About Alternatives to Violence for Youth in the Community
What:
Literacy Volunteers partners with BMHA Buffalo Public Housing Resident Council Corp, EPIC, Buffalo Reads, Greater Buffalo Savings Bank and Tri Main Development to host a community wide discussion about violence in the immediate neighborhood, and positive alternatives for youth. Legendary story teller Karima Amin will spin tales and a book giveaway will make sure no child is left behind. There will be light refreshments. This event is FREE & open to the public.
When:
Tuesday, August 9th, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Martha Mitchell Community Center, 175 Oakmont Avenue
Who:
Invited panel includes Erie County Youth Commissioner Joseph Abdallah, Reverend Kenyatta Cobb, Deputy Fire Commissioner Greg Love, Councilmember Bonnie Russell, Erie County Probation Commissioner George Alexander, neighborhood youth and residents and anyone interested in advancing our community by improving the literacy skills and quality of life of youth and families in Buffalo.
Why:
We need to come together as a community to address these issues, and this is our first step. 2005 marks Literacy Volunteers’ 40th anniversary. During this time, we have changes the lives of over 40,000 Erie County residents, yet still violence and strife mar our streets and illiteracy pervades our city.
