First Ever Neighborhood "Book Pantry" Launched by Literacy Volunteers, Flare and Youth Leadership Buffalo
7,000 BOOKS COLLECTED BY EAST AURORA YOUTH TO INITIATE PROJECT
What:
Literacy Volunteers and FLARE will open the first-ever “Book Pantry” for the neighborhood to share and enjoy 7,000 donated books.
After visiting the East Buffalo Community Center called Fillmore Leroy Area Residents Inc. (FLARE), and feeling empowered to assist its community members, members of the Youth Leadership Buffalo organization and the East Aurora schools collected 7,000 books to donate to the youth of the neighborhood and to be used in various literacy programs at the FLARE Center.

Underserved neighborhood youth and residents, representatives of Youth Leadership Buffalo, FLARE and Literacy Volunteers.
Why
According to the United States Department of Education, 61% of low income homes have no books in them, and over 80% of preschool and after-school serving at-risk children have no books at all.
