LITERACY VOLUNTEERS TO HOLD USED BOOK SALE ON WORLD LITERACY DAY- Celebrating Literacy with Read To Succeed Buffalo Campaign launch
(Buffalo, NY) Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo & Erie County is celebrating World Literacy Day with a used book sale on Saturday, September 8 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Kensington-Bailey Housing Services, 995 Kensington Ave.
The sale will include thousands of gently-used hardcover and paperback books in genres of all kinds, such as romance, mystery, thriller, biography, essay, children’s books and textbooks. The collection includes recent best sellers and historical classics. The books will be priced at a fair value for used books and proceeds will benefit programs of Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo & Erie County.
The book sale is being held in conjunction with the Read to Succeed Buffalo Campaign launch. Read to Succeed is a coalition of more than forty community organizations whose goal is 100% literacy for Buffalo. In addition to the book sale, the event, which is free and open to the public, will include hip-hop artists, storytelling, refreshments and library card registration.
Literacy Volunteers is the region’s sole provider of free, one-on-one adult and family literacy services. Since 1965 trained volunteers have taught motivated adults in Western New York to read and speak English and increase their literacy skills and levels. These skills enable our students to become better parents, workers and citizens benefiting their families, employers and society. Last year, Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo & Erie County provided free literacy skills testing and tutoring to over 700 Erie County residents. For more information visit www.goodschoolsforall.org.
