Adult Literacy One-on-One Tutoring
This program is for adults, ages 18+, seeking to improve their basic reading and English skills. Individuals working to develop spoken English skills would be part of the English Language Learner program, while those working to develop their reading skills would be part of the Basic Literacy program.
Volunteer tutors are matched to students based on available days/times/locations and meet one-on-one for 2 hours per week in a public location. Tutors assist their students in developing overall reading and English skills. Students are typically reading below a 6th grade level.
Tutors are not provided specifically to assist with specific tasks such as filling out paperwork, writing, pronunciation and accent reduction.

These centers are designed to provide additional reading and English tutoring for individuals who are enrolled in our program or for individuals interested in becoming students.

This program, in partnership with the Buffalo Center for Arts & Technology (BCAT), is designed to assist adults who possess a high school diploma in improving their literacy skills prior to entering a job training program in the area. Many job training programs require an individual to pass an entrance exam which may be difficult for some if they haven’t been in school for a while.
