Mommy & Me ESL Storytime
Literacy Volunteers has always been keenly sensitive to the needs of its ESL students. With the growing popularity of our ESL and Quickspeak programs, we saw an opportunity to provide a fun filled outreach method to new moms and their babies and toddlers.
In partnership with Barnes & Noble, we created a “Mommy & Me” class for non-native English speaking moms and their children. Often isolated and very eager to learn American children’s stories and nursery rhymes, ESL moms have flocked to this weekly group and have enjoyed bonding with other ESL moms and their children. To date, mothers and children from Korea, Japan, China and Taiwan have participated in our group which is led by a retired nursery school teacher and LV tutor.
